A Malay Wedding

Today, I went Fort Canning with Ming Yong and Fizah. Suparto invited us to his daughter's wedding held at the Fort Canning Centre. It was an enjoyable and eye-opening experience for me... Suparto (he took 3 days off lor) had indeed put in alot of efforts for such a memorable event.
The bride arrived separately from the groom and awaited on the stage for the groom. The groom accompanied with the kompang players etc marched in from the main road, so along the way we could hear the kompangs. Once outside the premise, not sure if there was martial arts(silat) performance, cos the main entrance was blocked and windows too so we couldn't see out.
Anyway, similarly to Chinese customs, the groom was supposed to pass through a few stages before he could "receive" the bride. And all the while the bride was blocked from view of the groom by the sisters with umbrellas. 1) the bride's side and the groom's side did poem sparring, in my terms, it's similar to those "bombings" in sec sch camps haha... 2) the groom's side had to finish up a plate of mixed flavoured stuffs from the bride's side haha... 3) the sisters asked the groom to sing a song... which he gladly sang for all, and they went away with the umbrellas. 4) the groom's side had to do something for the nanny holding a fan over the bride's face before the bride could be revealed haha...
