14 days of IA left

Mid April and early May was packed with tuition like 3 times a week cos I even revised Geography, History and Chinese with her. And whenever possible, tuition for bro too. On top of that, I was struggling to finish my industrial attachement report. But fortunately, the supervisor was on leave for 3 whole weeks cos he had to fly back to India for some family matters. So I could do my report during office hours which was a great help.
In addition, I was trying to finalise my FYP back then. Ugh, thinking back it was really depressing to hear others already confirming their projects and yourself still a lost sheep. Luckily it was the exams for him so we didn't have to squeeze out time for each other which would have been hard and tiring.
FYP
Went to Dr Gan's briefing on 11 Apr on his expectations etc for his projects. At that point in time, my choices were left with Dr Gan's and Dr Andrew's projects. The former specialises in microelectonics and the lather in organic synthesis, which are of totally different nature. And anyway, I went back to school on 18 Apr for a discussion with both of them. Dr Gan said to wait to 8 May before he would confirm his list of students.
Since my first choice is microelectronics, I had to wait till his list was out before I decide if I had to do with Dr Andrew cos I'm not so confident with organic chemistry now. Furthermore, the basics of organic chem needed for the synthesis experiments would definitely be a great challenge to me if I have to do self-study. Luckily, Dr Andrew is not as popular with my batch of students because he hasn't lectured us before so his list wouldn't be filling up as fast.
The 3 weeks waiting for was not wasted. Dr Gan confirmed me on 9 May. My project title is: Hydrothermal synthesis of rare earth hydroxide and oxide nanotubes. Nanotechnology. Microelectronics. Hmm... starting to do my literature review and background research already. Cos Dr Gan's asking for 5-page write-up with 20 references due when school starts next in August. And i'm planning on submitting before the new sem so I can concentrate on the experimental part and my other commitments.
Tuition
From last week till the June school holidays are over, tuition with Jess will be once a week since I really need a break from rushing to tuitions after work. And I cannot afford to let her slacken down now that she has shown some improvement in her work.
Last tuesday, she gave me a scorecard for her mid-years. I'm quite happy with her results... except we will need to do more on her english reading and understanding which will help in her literature ba. And it's quite expected to get such grades for her humanities. I'm guessing the history grade won't be any any better than her geog and lit.
Eng: 58.3/100 C5
MT: 70.5/100 A2
Maths: 80/100 A1
she would have gotten 85 marks if she hadn't wrote her workings in pencil which resulted in 5 marks being deducted.
Sci: 75/100 A1
Geog: 58/100 C5
Lit: 41.4/100 D7
Hist: duno yet
27 Apr
The first date in a month I think. Caught 'Forbidden Kingdom' with him. Hahaha..... it was a lame show leh cos it's really crappy watching chinese kungfu movies with english dialogues.
I was sad that Definitely, Maybe was left with only 1 or 2 screenings with bad timings. Even Sex is Zero 2 also not much better. As with The Other Boleyn Girl, I think I'm gonna watch them online. hehe...
8 May
A simple birthday celebration for Marcus, cos we had just celebrated mum's birthday. Surprised him with a blockcake with a green power ranger picture on it. And the next month we have dad's birthday as well... and that's after my IA, so should be able to go out for dinner or something.

14 May
I trim my hair for a new look. Okay, so maybe it's not entirely new look. but at least I feet different. Cos my parting went from left to right and it's not because I made it, but I woke up with it and it has stuck. It's layered now, so I can probably go highlight my hair soon. And I mean diy lah... cos there's still a half bottle left from cny.
Huixin's mother passed away in the morning on Wednesday due to a sudden heart attack. Even though she had no history. Life' so unpredictable and fragile isn't it. Heard from xin that 2 weeks earlier the whole family had just gone on a china trip and the day before they family had a mothers' day dinner with the other aunties and granny. So everything was fine until it crashed down on her. At least her mother was happy when she left and the only regrets she had were probably that she couldn't attend xin's convocation in July and see any of her daughters getting hitched and married.
I saw xin on Thursday and she looked better than she sounded. I know she can't possibly be better... so Xin, be strong at least till the wake is over this afternoon.
And gera, you aren't alone. I'm gonna eat with you till you ain't gonna be some beanpole. You two are dearest to me even though we haven't been seeing each other.
We can cry together another time, just us.Labels: Bdays, Family, FYP, GeraXin, Movies, Tuition
